Thanks Amy and Mel...
You're both right. I need to get him to see the need for testing. I'll work on it!

Mel, your point is perfectly correct, I know he certainly wouldn't know any other way of breathing and that's why he made the comment about it not being a problem so many times... his body adapted all along... I should have thought of that! Duh!

Of course, there were many times in the past when he was is crisis with it, but that's different, like you say, when infections come along it's obvious and he deals with them quickly because he knows what happens when he doesn't.

I agree- Mum is best left for now. She says she's had it with sinus surgery... says now that the treatment is worse than the disease, so to speak! She hates those surgeries, and of course the problems just return, but her mind is on other issues now... although she's beaten the cancer at present! Yay!

Nicole... Hi!
Thanks for your offer to talk with my son, you both being of similar age...
I'll keep that in mind for down the track a bit. He might be more receptive than I think, especially when he has time to mull it over a bit.
Of course, if he feels he's going ok he will be reluctant to 'make a big deal of it' as he would say!
I'll give him the site address and he may do a little browsing... you never know. He spends a lot of time on the 'net' and works full time in the IT field, so he might just get some more info that way too.
Thanks also Jenn and Lisa. I appreciate your time and thoughts.

I am quite surprised that after all these years no doctor has ever thought to test him for CF -- does he see someone on a regular basis or see the same doctor when he needs antibiotics? do you still have any contact with his current doctor? -- depending on the answers to those questions ..... maybe.... it's possible for you to ask the doctor about suggesting it to your son??? - would he be more inclined to agree if it came from the doctor? Also it seems to me that once you put the idea into the doctor's head he/she would very much want to pursue it.

Just to mention that many cfers with sinus issues and multiple surgeries find rinsing their sinus's is very beneficial. Many recommend the NeilMed rinses that you can find in most pharmacies or larger super markets. It is $10 for the bottle and 50 packets and most rinse 1-4x a day. You should use boiled distilled water to mix with the packet. It might help your mom out immensely. I agree though that brinigng the cf stuff up with her wont really be appropriate at this time, if your son were to be diagnosed then maybe, if she doesnt still have 'bigger fish to fry'.
