Mel, can't you get a little portable iv pump too? I always had the CADD Legacy Plus for Cefta (or Meropenem or Azartan, have been on those a few times too) and i had a iv ball for Tobra. I always had the Easypump from Braun, Tobra took about 30 to 45 minutes.
And the CADD Plus pump is so small that i carried it in a the special bag that comes with it around my waist. Tubing went under my clothes right to my port (or to my arm when i still had the regular venflons).

I have to say that I am quite pissed right now. Between iv fluids & antibiotics I am attached to my pole at least 6 hours every day.

Morning/night isnt too bad because I am usually doing my nebs & vest with it, but the afternoon dose is a pain. Its usually due the time I go get Jazz.

Lauren.....I never administer a dose straight out of the fridge even with my infusion pump. It makes me feel like crap & I found out with gravity fed that it really slows things down. It just chills me from the inside out so its a NO NO for me.

I also didnt know that Tobra, Meropenum were available in the balls. I knew Zosyn was thanks to Joni getting it, but I didnt have the balls with the zosyn either.

Marjolein.....my home health agency mentioned the other pump thing you were talking about. Or least something similiar, but she seemed to make it sound like it wasnt really an option for me now.

According to Joni a/k/a BelEache, her home health nurse told her that its up to the agencies how it gets administered because the balls are pricier. I did check with my insurance & they reimburse the agency their contracted fee for the MED no matter what method is used to administer it so IF the agency is holding back on me its for profit in my eyes.

At this point I dont think I will make much of a fuss, but IF I go back in & come home on iv's still......then I will raise some hell. I would think that compliance would be considered when they know that CF patient has a life & to offer what would be easier for the patient.

I am not sure my Doctor knows Tobra is available. Again there may be factors that change the availability, but at least I know it does exist. I definitely will do more homework & address it with my clinic so we all have the same info when dealing with my home health agency.

Sad thing is that its the only agency in a wide area that is contracted with my insurance, but I am sure if I raise a stink & there is no reason except cost that I could get what I want <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

Thanks for your input.
