I have done mine when I am sick. I have always done it before treatments at the hospital. It helps gives a boost. I didnt do it much when I was pregnant tho. I wasnt really "sick" tho so had no need. What I do is on my own. Its not part of what our CPT includes as you know......

I get manual CPT every night. I personally like it better than the vest. I do lay there some nights on my wedge when I feel extra congested for an extra 10 minutes, usually on my side. It seems to help the mucus to get out a little easier, but I still have to cough it out, just not has hard. But has ur belly grows, you might have trouble handling laying upside down. Guess it wouldnt hurt to try if you (and the baby) can handle it.

Sometimes the vest does nothing for me and I need the manual CPT. I like to change it up.

Yeah, and laying on your belly on some pillows does help it drain better for me as well sometimes.

Once I get to 6 months along, my plan is to have a therapist come to the house every day, at least 5 days a week to clap me. We are working now with insurance to see how to get that done. I've done that before, and we were surprised to find out that my insurance covers 6 weeks of a therapist coming to the house to clap me, once a day for 5 days of the week, for after I get out of the hosp! Cool! Now my doc is trying to get a special extended maternity "deal" for me.

If not, we're going to hire a PT student from a local college to come a few days a week-they'll be glad for the experience on their resume, and will be alot cheaper than paying out of pocket for someone else.

As for the draining-I will try it. Even if it helps a little. When I get big, I'll lay on my sides only.

And-someone mentioned those wedge things you use to prop yourself-? Where do you get them, out of curiosity?

FYI, in the hospital when they do my CPT they generally will ask if I can go into the "trendelenberg" position, which is where they tilt the bed so your head is lower than your feet while clapping. It is great if you can tolerate it because the gravity definitely makes it easier for the mucus to move out with less coughing. How much less, I can't really say.

I have had a couple of wedge pillows. I sleep on one every night instead of piling up pillows. That way I don't get any kinks in my neck. I have a second one I use when I have someone in the family do manual CPT. I buy mine on-line by searching under "wedges, or wedge pillows." They can range anywhere from the $20 - $100 range. I have always bought them at the cheap end. I love them!

I am impressed with how much planning you have done. Best wishes!

i purchased a wedge from www.harrietcarter.com, (item G3623) for $19.98 plus s/h (size 23" x 23" x 7-1/2"). it works great for postural drainage, also comes in handy to prop yourself up at night with pillows when you are coughing.

Yea, my boobs really hurt when the gorilla sized PT gets too rough with his pounding!

I've never heard of PD done without the clapping...is it some form of Bruce Lee style, "Clapping, without Clapping"!?

I still miss the good ole' days of being slammed on the tatami mats...sometimes it REALLY loosened some stuff up!

Anyway, hope you can get around the problem during the pregnancy!
