respirtech vs. hillrom

We just recieved the respirtech for our 2 year old daughter this week. She seems to love it!! Praise the LORD!! What a joy to not have to worry about our hands and carpeltunnel in order to keep her lungs clear. (Just joking, we would do anything including cut OFF our hands if it would make her healthy).

Anyway, for those of you that have tried the hillrom and the respirtech how do they differ?

I have read Amy's blog, and have done a little research about the differences as far as the waves, programable and such.

But is it really that much more comfortable than others? We have been told that, just curious (to hear from those that can use words again). I don't know what I would do with out you older cf's to ask my multitude of questions to.

So far she loves it, I think she likes being able to sit up instead of being tilted every which way during treatment.

Are there other things that are less desirable about the respirtech vs. the hillrom. It seems very loud to us, but other than that it appears to be good.

Thanks for your assement-

My Respirtech is a bit louder, a bit heavier, and a bit bigger.

But the jacket is custom fit... for me, that's a big plus.

Other than that, like you said, you read up on the waves, which for me is the end all be all. If I'm going to use a machine for 1 hour a day, 30 hours a month, 365 hours a year, it damn well better be the cream of the crop.

My time is too valuable for anything less.....

I just got a respirtech and I LOVE it. The fit is so much better. In the other one, the material was so slippery and too "vinyl-ish" that as the thing shook me I'd get red irritation spots on my skin. Also, the way the HillRom shook me was unbearable, especially when my port was accessed. The fasteners didn't stay put as the vest inflated, and the tubing kept falling off. The other thing I didn't like was that darn pedal. I never had enough concentration or strength to keep the pedal pushed. I always just tucked it under the corner of the machine.

With the Hillrom, I hardly ever could produce any decent coughs. Since getting the Respirtech I have a wonderfully productive "cough session" after each vest treatment. I have noticed such a difference that if I am even a little late with my vest time, I start to crave it!

The Respirtech is really comfortable. So comfortable that I have been able to take a nap in it! The way it pulses is great too. The HillRom shook me so much that my eyeballs would be jostling around and I couldn't even read while doing a treatment. With the Respirtech, only the parts of me that need to be shaken up get the attention.

I also like the way the velcro can be adjusted to work the different lobes. I'm still learning how to work that to the best advantage for my particular lung issues, but I'm convinced that the Respirtech has opened up a whole new world of lung clearance for me.

I was in desperate need of a workable solution to address my growing lung problems, and the Respirtech has given me just that. I probably sound like I'm gushing (an I guess I am!) but it's wonderful to have a new arrow in my quiver to fight off the enemy of CF.

hello

I currently have the hillrom. I woudl like to get the respiratech (especially after your response Lightnlife!LOL<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> ) but my CF clinic said that respiratech made them do all the paperwork and pursuing insurance whereas hillrom will do it all for them so she is not willing to try respiratech again as they did it before and it didnt work. I was wonderfing what your experience was when trying to get the respiratech. Perhaps things have changed at the company now. I plan to pursue this at my appt in June. I know my insurance will cover it as I have excellent insurance it is just all teh hoops and paperwork.

-sorry not trying to hijack here, I will post this as a separat thread
