I agree it should be the default but perhaps his plan is a bit too overzealous, rating the hospital based on the number of ograns they 'procure' or whatever. It can lead to a slippery slope in my opinion.

This is true. In NYC for example the hospitals that have a high Hasidic Jewish census are more likely to have a low number of organ donations since it is a no no in their religion.

CFers can donate organs? I'm not sure which of my organs someone would want. I'm guessing maybe my heart or liver? The lungs and pancreas are out obviously. and can i donate my heart since i already had a transplant? Aren't some important veins/arteries cut during the surgery to attach the lungs making thme shorter? I thought that was a counterindication to donation? In any case, they can take from me whatever they want!!! I don't need it anymore after I die, let someone else use it.

I also don't understand why people would be against the opt out program. This definitely forces families to face this topic and have the discussion of organ donation, no matter how unpleasant that conversation may seem. I just don't think enough families are talking about this topic because it is grim and brings up death. That causes so many more problems in a family in case something tragic does happen!!!

Yes CFers can donate. They just see what they can 'still use'.
I have read a story of a woman in the UK getting new lungs and a new heart (as a new heart with the new lungs is supposed to make the surgery 'easier').
She then donated her own heart for transplant, as that was still good. I think she has CF too.

I read on Emily's (Angel) blog ones that you can't be a donor when you are HIV positive or when you have Creutzfelt Jacob Desease (what you can get from eating meat that is contaminated with Mad Cows Desease).
I believe those were the 2 groups of patients that are emediately no candidate to be a donor
