Have you tried alternating Cayston with Colistin? I am unable to tolerate Colistin, so I alternate between Cayston and Tobramycin, but some people are able to alternate with different meds. Hopefully you can find a combo that works good for you. Some meds make you feel worse than better, so...
Hi Caitlin,
I have that problem from time to time. It seems to happen with certain medications, like when I start a month of Tobramycin. But sometimes it just happens for no reason. I just can't seem to clear the crackle in my mid-chest. It causes me to cough more to try to clear it, then...
I'm sorry you had to experience that! I would definitely find a new doctor. A lot of PCP's have no idea about the details of CF. It's kind of rare when you find one that actually understands it and is willing to work with you and your CF needs. I've had some doctors that were like, "You...
I'm assuming that she may have been having a reactive hypoglycemic response during her 2-hr OGTT, which caused her numbers to go down below normal (the 61).
You may want to call her CF doctor to see if you can keep a lot of her sugars and use that data rather than just going by the OGTT.
I don't add table salt to anything - just don't care for the taste of really salty foods. But when I do crave salt (which happens from time to time), I tend to eat a salty snack.
Hello,
I'm just curious, because I don't know/understand the logic, but why would you guys need to take fertility meds? In our situation with CF, I thought the only problem was the thick mucus...so with IUI wouldn't that be sufficient enough for you to conceive? But maybe it's because you've...
Thanks for the responses everyone - my labs/UA came back normal. It hasn't happened again, so must have been a weird fluke thing. My kidney stones starting giving me some pain today, so I'm assuming that's what was causing my frequency/urgency. Guess I gotta get back to the urologist...
Hello,
I have not yet been diagnosed with CFRD; however, I got a little freaked out yesterday morning when I was urinating A LOT. I had never peed that much in my life!! I was going every hour, it was extremely diluted (clear), and my bladder was full each time. It was almost as if I had taken...
ANYTHING is possible! But remember, we have a lot more needs than the normal person, so the high demands of school, residency, etc might not work well with our situation. Also, being in a hospital environment isn't ideal either. But it doesn't mean it can't be done.
JohnnaMarie- That's what I do as well, a protein shake 2 hours after breakfast and it works wonders!
Mistyjo- It does sound like she probably spiked and then had a bit of a reactive hypoglycemia episode. Hopefully the endo shed some light and keep checking her sugars so that you have a better...
Misty,
See if you can get a glucose monitor to see if that is what is really causing her symptoms. Hypoglycemia is very common in CF, but just to be sure it's not something else, check her sugars when she's having episodes. Let us know how the appointment goes.
Joni-
My new CF doctor just told me about a study that CFers do not benefit from Advair. He wanted me to do a "test" of not taking it for a month prior to one of my clinic visits to see if there was any difference in PFTs. I don't think I'm willing to do that - I really feel like it does...
I saw quite an improvement in my small airways (FEV25-75) after starting Advair. I use the HFA 115/21. I cannot get rid of the thrush because of it, so I use daily Nystatin.
