I am for it. An "opt out" option would be a solution for those who have moral or religious beliefs that dont allow it. I have to respect those who truly have beliefs instead of disregarding them since I wouldnt want that done to me. In order to keep things "simple" for the family it should be instituted as soon you get a driving license or reach legal age.

Until you are of legal age I do believe that the family has the final decisions just like with many other things. We might not agree in this thought process especially as Jess said if you dont luck out with a family that has the same views.

Adding another twist to it.....I think inmates should be part of this. Those who are on death row or will NEVER get out because they have life sentence, after life sentence. They lose the right to vote when they get locked up, why not the right to opt out?

I'm all for it. I had no idea that CFers could be organ donators until I joined this site. If people were educated on organ donation I think it would be much more accepted and maybe even more people would sign up for it willingly.

I'm with Mel on the inmates thing. Especially if they are on death row for murder. Their bodies could save a life where they had done wrong before and taken one!!

I think inmates should be guinea pigs for new medications without any choice in the matter, but thats for another discussion....
I also didnt know cf patients could be organ donors till i saw it on this site a few years ago.

I'm for it. If it matters to the individual enough (i.e. religious reasons), they'll go through to put their name on the opt-out list. Most people who don't now... do it because they don't want to face their own death and think about donating, so they don't bother. Or because they believe those stupid myths. Or just because they don't care. In other words... most people who don't do it now don't do it because they are selfish and don't think outside themselves for 5 minutes.

And I ABSOLUTELY believe inmates (especially those on death row) should donate theirs when they're offed. Give yourself one last brownie point by donating your otherwise useless organs. They can either save lives... or feed worms. I say you owe a debt to society, make one last attempt at atonement and save lives instead of feeding the worms.
